“This was our first pregnancy and a miracle. We wanted to document and remember all the months of excitement and shock. God has blessed us with a beautiful baby boy after years of uncertainty of whether we would be parents of biological children. We were excitedly moving on to build our family in another way when we found out we were expecting. Having our photos taken by our seriously talented and dear friend Emily March Photography was such a great experience. We had a blast, she made us feel incredibly comfortable and she captured our joy to always be remembered.

As I think and write about motherhood… Oh dear… how many pages do I get? In all seriousness, motherhood is something I longed and waited for for about 6 years. It was never completely the focus of my drive and it wasn’t all-consuming, but the desire was there and the questions were there. Looking back, I feel that God filled a lot of that void for me with the gift of being the oldest of five kids, an aunt to TEN nieces and nephews, a youth leader in our church and having so many mother-friends who welcomed me in to their every day walk. Sometimes, I felt like a mother! As much as having a baby was a dream, so was adoption; so when we decided to pursue the dream of adoption, it never felt like second best. It was exciting and scary but the timing was right… and just as we decided that, filled out paperwork, took a class, we found out we were expecting. We trust God’s timing in it all and are so thankful to be walking the dream of motherhood/parenthood in this way right now. In the right time, we will again pick up our other dream and continue on.

Motherhood is a gift that does not always look like we think it will. It doesn’t always mean birthing a baby but always means loving deeply, unconditionally and in a way so fierce you would give your life. It means sacrifice of time, sleep, emotion and little pieces of your heart over and over again. For me, motherhood and all of life’s seasons, means being refined, changed and formed into a person more like Jesus.

To current mothers and those waiting, I would encourage you to view life as seasons that come and go, and to embrace the one {season} that you’re in. Give it your all and thrive, grow deep, “”be where you are”” (as my mom always told me)! In the crazy, difficult times… of waiting on answers, hoping and praying OR of three+ kids climbing on you, needing you every second, reach out…loneliness can abound in both of those seasons. And, if you’re in a time of abundance and blessing, invite someone in and walk with her. She may be in a different season than you.” Rebecca, Expectant Mother
