“Everyone says it, but from my current seat right in the thick of it, I can confirm: the newborn phase is unlike anything else. I knew I wanted some special photos to document this moment in our lives, and I knew my dear friend Graham Terhune was the one to take them. The newborn photos I tend to like best are simple, understated, quiet, and intimate. That’s right in line with Graham’s style, and I knew he would do an amazing job — and he did! It was also wonderful to work with a friend on these, since those first few days of adjustment can leave you feeling both wonderful and vulnerable.
Since I am hopeless with hair and makeup under the best circumstances, I decided to work with another pro to give me a little extra boost for this session: Samantha of Lula Hair + Makeup. I’ve been lucky enough to have Sam do my makeup a few times in the past, and in addition to being incredibly talented, she has the sweetest and most peaceful spirit. It was a joy to chat with her as she helped me get ready for our session, and I couldn’t have been happier with the end result!
In the end, our daughter ended up being wide awake for pretty much the entire session, so we didn’t get the sleepy sweet newborn photos we were expecting. But what we got was even better — a beautiful and true look at a really beautiful time in our lives. I will always treasure these photos!” Emily, Mother
