A Middleton Place Plantation Maternity Session | Photography by Chris Isham

March 21, 2016

“Grace & Johnny are two of the sweetest, most genuine people I’ve ever met – truly. I admit, normally the written component of submissions and blog posts is not my forte. In this case however, I think simply including part of Johnny’s email explaining why he wanted to surprise his wife, Grace, with this maternity session while on their baby moon to Charleston from Toronto is better than anything I could attempt to write…” Photographer, Chris

“I would love to do the maternity shoot with you, and this email is to confirm that we will! Grace, however, does not know, and I’d like to surprise her with you if that’s cool! She has really struggled with whether to do a maternity shoot. Not just because she’s fiscally responsible, but because she doesn’t want to feel like she’s attempting to satisfy her sense of self by capturing what is temporary in this world. By temporary, I guess I mean our relative youth and appearance. I think our culture demands that we feed our vanity, and I believe Grace might feel like she is doing just that if she does do the shoot. This is one of the many reasons why I love her — she has a wonderful head on her shoulders, and I know you’d do wonderfully capturing that time transcending beauty!” Expectant Father, Johnny

“…Johnny surprised Grace with the shoot the night before I came into town by writing a page in her journal for her to read, promptly leading to tears of joy (from what I’ve been told ) They’d never been to South Carolina (or any part of the South I believe), so I felt historic Middleton Place Plantation capped off with the setting sun on the coast was a perfect fit for their session.” Photographer, Chris
