Finding Beauty | Photography by Cornelia Zaiss

“The whole journey of becoming a mother is a really beautiful thing. The changes that you go through both mentally and physically are quite incredible and these pictures documented part of that for me. I always want to remember each step that we took together from the first time I felt her kick my belly to holding her in my arms, etc…

Motherhood, for me, has been an adventure. Or at least that’s how I have approached it. From the first moment of finding out I was pregnant I had a surge of emotions. I was elated and at the same time terrified. This is the biggest responsibility that I am ever going to have. I didn’t want to mess it up. This beautiful little soul was going to be joining my life and I just decided I wanted to do everything right by her and instead of being overwhelmed by all of the different emotions one can feel about pregnancy I decided to approach it as an adventure. At the end of the day that’s what was important, that I took each day and did the best I could on the beautiful journey of motherhood.

It isnt going to be “perfect” but I can still find so much beauty in all the imperfections. Throughout my pregnancy, remembering that, to find beauty, even in the imperfections really helped keep things in perspective.  At the end of the day, all the changes you go through physically, the discomforts you may experience during pregnancy, not to mention labor itself, all of it just seems to fade away when your baby is placed in your arms for the very first time. When the midwife handed her to me and I felt her naked little body pressed against my skin for the first time, nothing else mattered anymore. That moment was beautiful.”  Crystal, mother
