When Heaven and Earth Collide | Photography by Andrea Pesce

“Several years ago, right around the time my husband and I were hoping to start a family, I was diagnosed with a rare form of ovarian cancer. A year later, after surgery and a very difficult treatment process, I was pronounced cancer free, which we were both so thankful for! However, my body had gone through so much and we were fearful that starting a family wouldn’t be as simple as we once believed. I clung to hope and faith though and a couple of years after my original diagnosis, I received a new diagnosis…

This time it was wonderful news! I already had a name picked out (in spite of fear of infertility) for the little person I was carrying. We decided not to find out whether we were having a girl or a boy, but in my heart I just knew it was a girl, because the name I had was just too significant. The moment she finally made her way into the world (10 days late!), the hospital room we were in (just a few halls away from the one I had stayed in when I was so horribly sick), became a place of deep emotional healing, a place where heaven and earth collided as her little spirit announced itself to the world. The whole room faded as my eyes locked on hers, tears started streaming down my face, and I called her “Jana” (Ya-nah) for the very first time. She is exactly what her name means… She is my little “gift from God.” Since that day we have been inseparable! I thought meeting her was the best day of my life, but now I have changed my mind! Getting to know her even more with each day that passes, as she comes into her own unique personality, makes every day the best day!” Stephanie, Mother
