“Sarah is a sweet friend of mine and co-leader with me of our local Tuesday’s Together group (part of the Rising Tide Society). She has a genuine ability to make you feel welcome no matter how long you’ve known her. Her background is in interior design and when she had her babies, she started her own, successful photography business. Her home and nursery have the clear marks of her design talent. Her love for her children is beaming as you can see on the look on her face while snuggling little Harbor.
I am passionate about photographing motherhood because I am passionate about the sacred roles of motherhood. Something miraculous happens in our hearts when we have a baby to call our own. A part of us is made awake that seems to have been resting. A dormant, secluded section that, once aroused, quickly seeps to overflowing all other areas of our heart. Through motherhood we become acutely aware of things we’d never noticed before. The world is brighter and more is at stake. We’ve become more vulnerable, and also more resilient than we’d been before. We worry over things we never knew existed before we were in charge of a tiny, helpless life. That small life is so precious, and so valuable. Seeing and caring for it is seeing and caring for a future we will never experience. What a blessing to raise children to love and care for the world after we are gone. What a weight and responsibility. In photographing mothers during their early days, weeks, and years of mothering, I am fortunate to witness a bond that is other-worldly. Motherhood and being a part of creating life leaves me awestruck each time I’m fortunate enough to witness it’s beauty.” Sarah, Photographer
