Whispers Among The Trees | Photography by Momento Cativo

May 9, 2017

“Wanting their maternity session to be especially memorable, Denise and Ze’ chose a location that is magical in nature, a place that is away from everything and everyone.  It was once said that the human spirit needs places where nature has not yet been rearranged by the hand of man. Peneda do Gerês, Portugal, is that place.

We traveled there to find that nature surrounded us and made us feel that we were the only ones on earth. And, for those moments we were.  We stepped away from the noisiness of life and into the serenity of nature. Peneda do Gerês is the only national park in Portugal with a history that dates back to the Romans traveling through Portugal. There are even sections of Roman roads that have been preserved for more than a thousand years. To think that we were the only ones on the earth for those few moments was awe-inspiring.  However, we knew, because of the depth of history, that we were walking where other expectant couples have walked, also awaiting the arrival of a little one. Thoughts of those who have come before grasping hands, cradling their babies filled our conversation. We wondering what their hushed whispers and grand dreams must have been. Surely their dreams were like ours… for a healthy babe, full of grins and giggles, with strength of body and strength of character.  Oh, if those trees could have talked.  What stories they would have told. Now, they know the story of Dionisia and Ze’.

It was in this forest, where birds sang, majestic animals roamed and centuries of history surrounded us, that we recorded their love, their love for each other and the new, growing love for their little one who is soon to be born. This place, full of wonder and beauty was perfect for capturing these fleeting moments as this couple awaits the arrival of their sweet babe.” Vanessa, Photographer
