“I adore photographing mothers with their babes. As a mother, I know that moments are unexpected, unplanned, and unintentional. Simplest gestures often go unnoticed and the role of a mom is often so overwhelming that a moment frozen in time brings me back to my why. Why I love being a mom, why I wouldn’t trade in those late nights and early mornings. Why I put a tiny little human’s needs before my own. I love the simplicity of a hand grab, the dimples that come with little grins, and the warmth of a mother’s touch. While these moments fly by in real time, a photograph allows these memories to be cherished forever.
Working with this family is always amazing. I have worked with this mom before, but this time, our session was different. We had no itinerary, no plans for specific photos, and no expectations how the session was going to turn out. We planned mom and son’s outfits based on traditional fall colours and knowing that we were going to pick some apples from the orchard. The sun was high in the sky and we decided to play with the light instead of hiding in the shade. I really wanted to create a relaxed and natural set of images, so I took more of a documentary approach and asked mom to pick apples while interacting with her little one. Without giving much direction, I asked mom to show her love with gestures as opposed to words, and viola, amazing connections and beautiful moments were captured.” Charlotte, Photographer
