An Otherwise Fleeting Moment | Photography by Rachel Wells

“Becoming a mother has been the most extraordinary experience of my life, it is unbelievably beautiful. I feel a sense of pride unlike anything else. It takes an incredible amount of strength and sacrifice, something I don’t think I truly understood beforehand. Motherhood has taught me how to love my body for what it can do, to give myself grace as it changes, and to have faith in the process. If I could share just one piece of advice to all the expecting mothers, I would say… Pay attention, you will never get this time back. The days may seem long, but the years will seem short. Embrace each moment, every diaper change, every 3 am feeding, every moment of self-doubt, because these moments will pass all too quickly. We invited Rachel and her family to spend the weekend in Charleston, South Carolina to document this sweet season in life. We knew that Charleston would be the perfect backdrop for our pictures, we love the city’s detail and the historical charm. Rachel did a wonderful job making us feel at ease during the session. The portraits have become more than just photographs, they help us preserve an otherwise fleeting moment in time. I know that we will look back and cherish them for years to come.” Jenna, Expectant Mother

“Words escape me when I try to describe how becoming a mother actually feels. I’ve always been so excited and intrigued by motherhood, even well before I had children of my own. I enjoy so much just chatting about motherhood with my sweet clients. I love sharing in the anticipation and becoming a small part of their new adventure. This session was especially exciting for me because Jenna and Jeremy are dear friends. We just couldn’t wait to spend the weekend with them in a beautiful city I love so much. Charleston will forever be my favorite city. She’s the birthplace of my firstborn. Every time I visit, I am surrounded by nostalgia and history, and I will never, ever tire of visiting! Photographing motherhood is something I never thought I was meant to do. I had my sights set on becoming a wedding photographer and nothing else. When I was focusing on weddings, while I loved them and still do, I sometimes had an internal conflict and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. This completely changed when I had my first baby. I was finally blessed enough to experience how incredibly precious, fleeting and exhilarating these moments are. I knew very quickly that I wanted to set these moments still for other mothers. My first motherhood session after having my child instantly breathed life into my business. I was finally able to define how I actually wanted to serve clients through photography, and I leave each session filled to the brim!”  Rachel, Photographer
