“I’m a first time mom and everyone is always telling me to enjoy this time because it doesn’t last very long. It’s so true! It has only been a few weeks since these photos were taken & my baby is already so different! We have the most beautiful photos of this special time.
I’m so happy that we chose JoAnna to photograph this moment in our lives. She captured my vision so beautifully & the photos turned out better than I could have imagined. It can be so stressful trying to get these photos just a few weeks after becoming a mom. She made both my husband and I feel so relaxed, especially when taking photos with a newborn isn’t always easy!
We found out a few weeks before I was due with our first baby that she was breech. Shortly after Olivia was born we learned she had hip dysplasia & we prayed that it wouldn’t require medical assistance. Our one week old baby girl was put into a Pavlik harness and I was devastated. I was so worried that the harness would change everything I had envisioned during my pregnancy, there went all of the adorable outfits I had planned for her and direct skin to skin contact. When it came time to get the harness, I realized that my daughter didn’t mind it at all & I was the only one upset about it. I quickly learned a valuable lesson that motherhood is choosing to be strong for your baby when God’s plan for them is different than your own.” Jessica, Mother
“I really enjoyed working with Jessica, Jeff and sweet new Olivia. Knowing that Olivia had hip dysplasia, I wanted to be very mindful of that while posing her. I worked quickly so that she could return to her harness, and was very careful that I didn’t put her in positions that might be uncomfortable to her since she is used to wearing the harness most of the day.
Jessica has impeccable taste and wore a beautiful Free People dress. I loved watching her interact with her sweet new baby – calling her pet names and kissing her constantly. Both parents were so kind, genuine and obviously in love with their new addition, which makes my job easy! On top of all that, Jessica baked the most incredible pumpkin muffins and brought them to me as a gift! I was so impressed by the sweet gesture, and with her baking skills!
Before the session, we spoke about a few descriptive words that they wanted to feel when viewing the photos. Jessica responded with: calm, delicate, clean, classic, & sweet. I feel as though we accomplished that, and love that we captured the obvious intimate bond between this sweet new family…
“Newborn and motherhood photography was never on my radar as something I thought I wanted to pursue, until I had my own children. Motherhood has been the biggest transformation for me personally, and I feel as though it has recalibrated how I see family, children and the role of being a mom. It is so fulfilling to me to capture a mother and her new baby in those first few days, showing her how beautiful she is during this season. When I look back at photographs of my own children taken during infancy, I am always floored at how quickly they change. I am always honored to be allowed to photograph such an important, fleeting moment in a family’s history.
Though motherhood may be one of the most challenging journeys, I believe it is so gratifying. I once heard someone say in reference to being a mom, “It doesn’t get easier – you get better.” I believe that is so true, or hope it is anyways. Even though we face new challenges in every stage with our children, the experience of motherhood changes us, and how we respond to those challenges. I think that is something really special, and something that I think about every time I photograph a baby and its mother.” JoAnna, Photographer
