“Anna & Dan chose a few quintessential Boston locations for their maternity session. We started at the Public Garden, which is the oldest public park in the US. In the spring, The Friends of the Public Garden (the organization that keeps the gardens pristine) plant tulips and other flowers. People come from all over to witness their beauty. We strolled around for quite some time, just getting to know each other. I loved learning all the things they are excited about and all the things they’re rightfully nervous about for their first child. As we strolled around, I was naturally drawn to neutral areas that would really compliment Anna’s red dress. Afterward we walked through the Back Bay neighborhood to capture the magnificent magnolias blooming all along the nearby cobblestone streets. We ended along the Esplanade making the most of two gorgeous cherry blossom trees that were at the height of their blossom.
Anna & Dan are extremely warm, welcoming people. You know how they say Australian people are the kindest? Well, Anna is no exception. Both of them are also extremely smart – she’s an author and he’s a rocket scientist. Right from the start, I could tell their love is very lighthearted, but strong as ever. It doesn’t hurt that they are both beautiful together. It was so lovely getting to photograph their almost new parent glow; the one before all the sleepless nights!
I find photographing motherhood to be the most emotionally fulfilling type of photography. There’s a completely different vibe to maternity and newborn sessions than weddings or other types of photography. Motherhood sessions are so relaxed and there’s a very strong sense of appreciation for the world that I can feel from my couples. I also feel so inspired witnessing other women really embrace the way their bodies have changed. It’s a feeling I have yet to go through, but it makes me so excited for when it happens. I absolutely love learning about each couple’s journey and witnessing the pure excitement about what’s in store for them in the very near future.” Hannah, Photographer
