“I came to realize that we do not have any photographs of the three of us. I really wanted photographs that would remind us of what it felt like being in the moment during this precious time in our lives as a family rather than having simply posed and lifeless portraits. I spoke to Olya about capturing us in a very natural way that would reflect the relationship between the three of us. Rather than providing us with ongoing direction throughout the shoot, she continuously allowed time for natural in-between moment to unfold. Olya would give us a series of actions to carry out and then take a step back. We felt unbelievably comfortable and at ease. The entire atmosphere felt so tranquil. These photographs will forever bring us back in time.
Motherhood both fulfilled and challenged me more than anything I’ve ever experienced. Even though I am more tired than ever, there is no greater joy than coming home and having his little hands wrap around my neck. I have also realized that time gallops so I try to enjoy every moment we spend together as a family.” Martyna, Mother
“Living in the larger than life, fast paced New York City one always feels on the move with the ever flowing current of busy city streets. We often forget to stop and breathe. As a young couple, Martyna and Darek enjoyed the bustling scene of the city that never sleeps. However after becoming parents, they felt like slowing down. Knowing that their careers would require them to remain close to the city, they decided to find a place to escape for the weekends. In just thirty minutes and a small bridge crossing, lies a long narrow peninsula known as the Rockaways. With wild beaches surrounded by vast views of open water, perfectly uninterrupted sunsets and wildlife preserves, one is immediately transported into an entirely different world. It feels as if you have miles all to yourself. The light breeze of salty ocean air caresses your skin and hair as you listen to the sounds of whispering grass and incoming waves. You feel yourself slowing down, breathing, and taking it all in. It is a place to retreat, to truly be present.
It is such a humbling experience to be invited to record precious moments of connection between growing families, to be treasured for generations to come.” Olya, Photographer
