“Motherhood isn’t as easy as these photos make it look. So don’t be fooled by the one day that we are all looking perfect smiling and happy! There are ups and downs and scrapes and bruises. However, when you stop and look back at it all, it really feels as beautiful as these photos make it look. It’s not about it being perfect all the time. There is no way it ever will be that way. It’s about the ups and the downs and coming through as a happy loving family. The hard work is what makes the sweet moments that much sweeter. Taking family photos feels like a reward or a prize for our family. It allows us to shine bright, stand tall, and take time to soak in all the love and happiness we share. Step away from the daily routine and just be a family. That being said, getting everyone organized for a family portrait session, the kids, your husband, and yourself all looking “perfect” at once is more hard work for us Mothers! But the pay off of beautiful photos is the true prize!
As a Mother of two children who are now 5 and 7 years old, I know the importance of capturing my kids at every age. I take thousands of photos throughout the years of my kids, but the ones I treasure the most are the professional photos. It is our family tradition to get professional photos at least once a year. It’s true what they say… “The days are long, but the years are short.” It is shocking to see how fast my kids have grown. I treasure our professional photos since they really have captured my kids at every stage. These are mementos I will always cherish. My most valuable treasure are our photos.” Melissa, Mother

This misty California coastal session was such a treat. I left my home in the valley that afternoon to incredibly sunny skies, driving over the hill to the coast. Much to my surprise, upon reaching the summit, I saw that ethereal fog come swirling through the tall redwoods! When I wound down through the Santa Cruz mountains, landing at the coast, I found the most misty magical afternoon! (California micro-climates always make it interesting!) In fact, the fog and mist were so thick at moments, we almost considered turning back … but funny enough, found we just couldn’t turn away. That rugged coastline and beautiful panorama views were painted such beautiful colors, it was as if the sky had provided the ultimate soft box for us to shoot that afternoon.
I truly look forward to my time with the Miller Family every year! Their children are so kind, so respectful and just wonderful really. We wandered the coastline that afternoon, stopping to explore the tide pools and appreciate the expanse of ocean so beautifully displayed for us! We enjoyed those final moments as the sun set on the Pacific, laughing and being silly. I didn’t want to leave. So we decided to take the party around the corner and get some burgers to close out the night! The Millers, that California coast, and burgers … ah, what a night!” Tara, Photographer
