“These photos are a celebration of our first baby’s first birthday, a celebration of our first year of parenthood that we successfully accomplished, but also a celebration of our love. We were able to stop by our wedding venue for some of the photos and it happened to be our fifth wedding anniversary. It was a pretty surreal moment to be on the same lawn we had our wedding portraits and doing it again five year later, this time with our baby boy! The memories of this day make us so happy and smile as we look back on our chubby little 13 month old, hamming it up for the camera, eating his raisins, playing peek a boo, and waddling his brand new little walk around the lawn. These photos are so special and will be cherished forever and ever.
My first year of motherhood is so hard to put into words. When searching for the words and feelings, the first things that come to mind are lucky and an overwhelming love.
A love that takes over your whole body and mind, that it sometimes feels surreal. You’re so happy you could cry. You’re so tired you could cry. You’re so anxious you could cry. You’re so in love, you do cry. Seeing each milestone and monthly birthday pass by, you cheer them on and hug them with pride, but at the same time you hug them praying for the time to slow down and to forever stay my baby. Everyone has told me that the days are long, but the years are short. I didn’t want to believe them until I experienced my first year of motherhood. It couldn’t be more true. Except that the days feel short too! The time flies by and I try my hardest to hold onto it and be present so that I never forget.
I feel like the luckiest woman in the world that I get to be this little boy’s mom. And how did I get so lucky to have the squishiest, happiest, funniest little mini me to spend every single day with? He is my brightest light and my happiest of happy.
Becoming a mother has been the greatest gift and blessing of my life.” Katie, Mother
“Working with Katie is always an absolute dream. I was able to capture her maternity and newborn photos previously and was thrilled when she reached out again to ask if I could photograph her sons one year photos on their 5 year wedding anniversary! She has such an eye for detail and is always so relaxed and present. The location for this session was so meaningful for this family as it is where they got married. How sweet to return to that same spot and photograph the life they’re building! One of the most fulfilling things I find about photographing motherhood is being able to preserve a moment in time for the mother. Motherhood is such a wild ride, it is so incredibly rewarding and fulfilling. You discover a love so powerful you never knew existed. Children grow and change so quickly, so to be able to photograph a mother and child together in a certain season of life is truly a special gift.” Susan, Photographer
