“Samantha and her family moved into the DC area in the midst of a pandemic but knew they could not let this special time pass without capturing maternity photos. Motherhood can be chaotic and messy, and despite the circumstances, they retained a sense of purpose and peace during these uncertain times. Samantha, her husband Jared, and son Theodore were the sweetest people to meet and work with. Their kindness and willingness to adapt despite difficult circumstances are a testament to their family’s strength and parallel the hills and valleys of motherhood. In the words of Samantha, motherhood is exhausting, but the best part is the “awe and wonder in the eyes of my little one. – it is a fresh reminder of childlike joy that comes with their innocence.” As a mother myself, I resonate with these beautiful words – sometimes, we just need to look at our little ones to be reminded of the sweet things in life.

I am drawn to photographing mothers because of the paradox motherhood carries. We are constantly told how quickly these years will pass; yet, the day to day can often feel slow and far from extraordinary. When we do look back on this time, we see so much nostalgic beauty.
