“We became pregnant in January, so by the time we were announcing our pregnancy a few months later, the pandemic was in full swing. Our families and friends live in Canada, which meant I did not get to see any of the most important people in my life during this very special time. Although I was so incredibly happy to be pregnant, there was a small part of me that was sad it was happening during these challenging circumstances which meant not getting to experience the in-person celebrations and moments with the people we love. Having this shoot with Adrianne and having this time in our life documented so beautifully helped us celebrate the pregnancy in our own way.
I have always been the type of person with a 5-year plan set out in front of me, and have not been known to be the most patient when it comes to achieving the goals I set out for myself. At first, getting pregnant was another goal for me, and it was frustrating and upsetting when it didn’t happen at the exact moment I wanted it to. During the months we waited to become pregnant, a line from a song my husband and I loved resonated with me – “things just don’t grow, if you don’t bless them with your patience”. Learning to be patient while waiting to become pregnant was an incredibly important lesson for me as I entered motherhood – I needed it again as we waited for our sweet baby girl to grow, and now finally, I am practicing patience daily with myself and how life has changed over the past month since our daughter arrived. I have no doubt I will need to continue to cultivate it as she grows and tests boundaries, from the toddler stage and beyond.” Allie, Expectant Mother
“Allie & Dave are originally from Canada but had recently moved from the Northeast US to Richmond, VA where they are both doctors in different fields. Dave is a film photography enthusiast and we had a great time at this session. This is their first baby and I could just tell how over the moon they were. We met in an old golf course that still has all of the footpaths but is completely surrounded by tall grass and wilderness. They trusted me with the artistic vision and the images turned out absolutely stunning.
I’ve found real, consistent beauty in photographing motherhood, and the only way I can describe it is “wonder.” Whether it’s maternity or a family of 5, I always catch mom pondering her children or her growing belly in the dearest way. I work to capture those glimpses that are sometimes hard to remember in the day to day busyness of motherhood itself.” Adrianne, Photographer
