Richmond, Virginia Motherhood Session photographed by Kara Powers and featured on The Fount Collective_0005“I wanted these photos as a way to celebrate and remember the firsts: our son’s first year of life, our first child, our first year as parents. Each image is a reminder of how impactful and transformative this year has been. I see a woman who didn’t know her own strength until she held that fresh little baby in her arms. I see the joy on my husband’s face from hearing our son’s laughter. I see a little boy who is thriving and so full of curiosity and sweetness. These photos hold precious memories.

Motherhood is the highest calling. We are entrusted to shepherd and nurture our children. Each day, I learn to reorient my heart and focus on something outside of myself. One of the most pivotal pieces of advice I have been given is that I am the best mother for my baby. He was designed for me and I for him. As a new mother, I quickly learned to lean on our community and to give myself grace during the difficult moments and sleepless nights.”  Anna, Mother Richmond, Virginia Motherhood Session photographed by Kara Powers and featured on The Fount Collective_0002

“Historic Tuckahoe is a favorite spot of mine in town, but I tend to stay in the fields leading up to the house and gardens. Since the pastoral beauty and atmospheric light have such an ethereal quality in the morning, we chose to do their session there.

Anna’s session was genuine and endearing. The bond between baby John and his mama was palpable. To that end, there wasn’t a lot of prompting or posing. I also attribute this to Anna’s ever-present gracefulness! Thankfully, Anna is a friend and fellow photographer in Richmond, so the familiarity brought comfort to both of us during the session.

I went to school for Photography and Art History at SCAD. The first ten years of my professional career were spent at various museums across the east coast. When I began my own journey to motherhood, it did not come easily. I was met with multiple losses, setbacks, and disappointments. My faith, my husband, and my camera saw me through those isolating four years. Being able to document the joy for other women I so desperately desired for myself helped to heal my heart. The Lord’s faithfulness and steadfastness endured and I have been blessed with two beautiful daughters. I never lose sight of the fact that Him calling me to photograph motherhood is my testimony. I will happily and boldly proclaim His goodness!”  Kara, PhotographerRichmond, Virginia Motherhood Session photographed by Kara Powers and featured on The Fount Collective_0001 Richmond, Virginia Motherhood Session photographed by Kara Powers and featured on The Fount Collective_0003 Richmond, Virginia Motherhood Session photographed by Kara Powers and featured on The Fount Collective_0004 Richmond, Virginia Motherhood Session photographed by Kara Powers and featured on The Fount Collective_0006 Richmond, Virginia Motherhood Session photographed by Kara Powers and featured on The Fount Collective_0007 Richmond, Virginia Motherhood Session photographed by Kara Powers and featured on The Fount Collective_0008 Richmond, Virginia Motherhood Session photographed by Kara Powers and featured on The Fount Collective_0009 Richmond, Virginia Motherhood Session photographed by Kara Powers and featured on The Fount Collective_0010
