“I’ve wanted to be a mom for as long as I can remember. The anticipation to hold our little one is an unexplainably joyous feeling that you truly can’t prepare your heart for. The special bond we feel for our baby has been perfectly captured in our maternity photos and I couldn’t think of a better way to cherish these incredible feelings.” Jessie, Expectant Mother
“The month of December is celebrated by the Christian church as Advent. It is certainly the season pregnant mothers can most closely connect with. Advent is marked by expectancy – and oh, what a sweet parallel we find to the life of a first-time pregnant mother, even now in the twenty-first century. There’s joy, to be sure. A calm not unlike that of Christmas morning … and some trembling as you wonder in earnest who you will meet earthside in a few short weeks.
As we remembered the final days of Advent, the season of expectancy, expectant parents Jessie and Derek entrusted me with their maternity portraits on a cold winter day, before the first snowflakes of the season graced Wisconsin. To bring in a subtle December atmosphere, I placed Jessie and Derek among pine trees, classic stone architecture, and those long winter shadows that I often miss come springtime.
Each session of motherhood carries its own joys and sorrows, as each mother lives a unique story that imbues the home she creates both inside and outside of herself. To walk through the final days of expecting with my sweet friends Jessie and Derek, was an honor. I especially cherish maternity sessions as they give us an opportunity to create portraits that will always remind her of the waiting days. The days before her life forever changed. What other profession helps women truly see themselves as the profound life-givers they are like photography?
Walking with women through all of the changes in their bodies, marriages, homes, and purposes – everything! – is a gift I hold with great care in my calling as a motherhood photographer.” Maddy, Photographer
