“It was so incredibly special to photograph Nicole and her children. Nicole and I connected over social media and I was so drawn to her honest and humble approach to motherhood and photography. I could relate to her experiences of being a mother to young children, while also being a photographer, so I knew we would immediately click! The bond between Nicole and her two children was so evident and it was a beautiful thing to be able to witness.
The coast is a place they often frequent as a family. We wanted their wardrobe to compliment the palette of the setting- soft blues and creams, delicate textures, and flowy fabrics. I love the freedom and joy the beach brings out in children and adults too for that matter. The warm coastal breeze and the setting sun on the horizon set us up for a beautiful evening for a session.
Photographing motherhood on film is by far my favorite thing to document. Our days as mothers are a paradox of highs and lows, beauty and mess… fleeting moments we want to freeze, along with exhausting seasons that seem to last forever. As a young mother myself, I know that motherhood is just that- a blur of beautiful, impossibly difficult, magical moments. I imagine that when I look back on these years of raising young children, I won’t remember so much the sleepless nights or never-ending loads of laundry, but more so the intangible memories that I aim to capture in my photos- my toddler’s chubby hands reaching for me, or the tiny freckles sprinkled over my daughter’s sun-kissed cheeks. My hope is that my photos will be a reminder of the good woven throughout your story, and will give you a renewed appreciation for the blessings that are yours.” Rachel, Photographer
