“As a first time mom I wanted to capture as many moments and milestones as possible. Usually moms are the ones behind the camera, not in front of it. It’s incredible to watch how much my daughter has grown but also to be able to reflect on how much I’ve grown as a parent. Janet is an amazing photographer, friend, and mother whom I look up too. It was a blessing to work with her and have her be apart of these moments in my life.

Motherhood has flipped my life upside down in the best ways possible. It has taught me strength I never knew I had and pushed me out of my comfort zone. As a first time mom I was scared and worried about not being enough for my daughter. Doubt filled my mind my entire pregnancy. But as soon as she arrived, I felt a sea of calmness overcome me. Being a mother is who I was meant to be. It brings me unlimited joy to see Kinsley learn new things and hear her sweet giggle. “This session took place at the Washington State Capitol in Olympia, Washington.  It’s such a gorgeous location, with the most beautiful architectural elements.  The building and stairs are so elegant, made of marble with a smidge of pink hue to it.  It seemed perfect for Alex, who is a pillar of strength for her daughter and yet is so feminine and beautiful. I knew it would be the perfect location for an elegant motherhood session with a feminine flair.

It is incredibly heartwarming and such a special honor when clients come back to me time after time to document the most significant milestones in their lives.  I first photographed Alex for bridal portraits.  Years later, I had the opportunity to document her maternity photos. It was such a beautiful, full-circle moment to get to create these images for her now with a baby in her arms!

I have always admired Alex for her strength and independence.  She is the kind of woman you meet and immediately know will accomplish anything she sets out to do.

Since Kinsley was born I’ve only been more in awe of this woman. She has a way of balancing all that strength with such tenderness, nurturing her little one with gentleness and unconditional love. This darling little girl has stolen her mommy’s heart, and it doesn’t take spending much time with her to see why! Kinsley is a ball of sunshine, bursting with smiles and giggles.

As a mama to my own two little boys, motherhood sessions are really special to me. I can connect to these little moments so authentically from behind my lens; capturing those sweet butterfly kisses, tiny toes, and soft snuggles and knowing how we as moms cherish those small, but significant gestures. These moments are fleeting, and that is exactly why I believe in documenting them this way.
