“My motherhood journey was not at all what I imagined it would be. When I was young I believed that motherhood was a very clearly defined role which involved cooking, cleaning, organizing schedules, and enforcing rules. While I spend plenty of time doing these things, I have come to learn that Motherhood is none of these things. When I began to understand that Motherhood is not a role at all, but a relationship with each of my unique children I began to see the innate beauty in Motherhood. This is a subject I have spent a lot of time pondering while I have worked to reconcile my expectations with my reality as a Mother. I have come to better appreciate the magic in the mundane as I have worked to create a life that prioritizes my relationships with my children over my role as a homemaker. When my youngest was born I started seeking the magic of motherhood through photography and have since become a photographer specializing in Motherhood so that I can show other Mothers how incredible beautiful they are in the season of early Motherhood. As I have come to understand this myself it is so meaningful for me to show this to others.

This session was photographed at Oval Beach on Lake Michigan. The beach is always a place where I have found peace and clarity and since becoming a Mother it is a place I love to share with my family. We love visiting Lake Michigan where the children can play freely and all of the minutia of our day to day life seem to fade away. Working with Kelly was a dream, she was so communicative before the session and during the session gave the perfect amount of prompting to let our story play out while capturing us in the best light. I reached out to Kelly months in advance hoping that she would be able to fit us into her schedule because I have never invested in a session with a photographer I LOVE and I knew that I couldn’t wait any longer to make this a priority.
