“This session was photographed in a hidden meadow in southeast Michigan and was an absolute dream! Unexpectedly nestled within a residential area, it was just far enough from a busy road to feel a world away, like a secret – the perfect location to feel immersed and connected for timeless, artful family photos. Being a photographer myself, I knew Christina would capture us in a way that words couldn’t describe. It was authentic, it was raw, and it was so intentional. We as photographers ourselves aren’t captured as often as we need to be, and I make it a point to get family photos taken yearly. These little ones grow so fast and I want all the moments captured on film and printed to create gorgeous linen albums and gifts for their grandparents. Christina’s hands-off, editorial approach really helped us feel comfortable and like a celebrity family.
My story of motherhood isn’t the usual. My business grew exponentially three days after I was released from the hospital with my new baby girl, Ella Grace. I was torn between work-life balance and had so much to organize, but it forced me to develop systems and outsource in order to spend time with my newborn princess. I found the more I let go, the better mom I was.
You must give up some things to reach that moment of peace. I’ve found it, and I wouldn’t have had it any other way. Motherhood taught me more than any life experience or job ever could. It taught me to be selfless. It taught me to manage my time. It taught me that my example as a working mom was something my daughter would aspire to be. It taught me that making mistakes is ok – it helps you learn. It taught me that having a family isn’t an easy task, but my God, it’s worth everything.
We tried nearly a year to have our second babe, Eli, and during the waiting period, it was hard watching other mamas have babes so easily, yet comforting to know other mamas have struggled with the same. This is the lesson: patience, and contentment.
Treasure each season of life, even the hard ones. It really shapes you into a better human. You can do this and remember to give yourself the grace you deserve.” Alora, Mother
“Alora is a close friend and fellow photographer, so it’s always an honor to capture her and her beautiful family. Contrary to what one might expect, there’s never any pressure when we work together. We both gravitate toward natural, documentary-style imagery and joke often about our similar souls. There’s just trust, flow, and ease. Not yet being a mother myself, I find photographing motherhood so inspiring. From behind the camera, the connection between a mother and her child is powerful, ever-flowing, and no matter the age or season of life, such a delight to witness and document.” Christina, Photographer
