Janet is no stragner to Fount as we’ve featured her work several times (see here, here, and here), but this time she is in front of the camera with her own sweet boys. Here’s what she had to say about being on the other side of the camera…
“Simply put, working with Katy was a dream. As a mother to two small children herself, she knows exactly how to get kids to just be kids and I’m so grateful for that. She truly caught the most genuine and authentic moments of my boys. Our session felt just like any other walk by the river; light-hearted, easy, and full of beautiful memories.
As a motherhood photographer myself, I constantly stress the importance of getting in the frame with your kids. I spend my days creating treasures others will cling to as their children grow, and in the process often neglect to do the same for myself. It meant so much to me to have Katy create these images of just me and the boys. I know as they grow older they’ll be less enthused about getting in a photo with mom, holding hands, or snuggling up in the sand. What an absolute gift to have this cherished time in their lives documented so beautifully. I cannot thank Katy enough.
I can’t forget the early years when I was flooded with heartbreak over losses that seemed to come, one after the other. It felt like I was stuck in a whirlpool, half drowning, and nothing would stop the spinning. Isolation, hopelessness, anger, grief. Hollow is the only real way I can describe how I felt.
And now, here I am with two darling boys filling my days with laughter and dirt, swept away in a different kind of whirlwind. I’m in awe of them, every moment. Most days it still feels hard to believe… they’re mine! Every day, even the rough ones feels like a gift to be treasured, every moment a mercy to be earned. My heart has gone from hollow to whole.” Janet, Mother
“I have always gravitated towards highlighting mothers with their children during sessions, so it was such an honor to capture my dear friend with her sweet boys at their local park. Witnessing the boys’ laughs and admiration for their mama is a reminder to me that Motherhood is such an amazing gift.
The most fulfilling part about photographing Motherhood is capturing those authentic connections between a mother and her children. The ability to preserve these personal memories through portraits that can only be felt and appreciated with a mother’s love.” Katy, Photographer
