“My husband and I have taken pictures together before but this time meant so much more – and it was an almost bittersweet moment. Not only would these be the last pictures taken of just the two of us, but it captured the expectation and excitement of waiting for this baby to join us!
I’ve always seen motherhood as an honorable calling in life. We were so thrilled to find out we were expecting our first child last year! We were excited for the new adventure ahead. Unfortunately, we suffered a pregnancy loss. We were crushed. But as we moved through the grief, we were brought even closer as a couple. Miraculously, in August last year we received the news that we were expecting again. Though nervous and cautious, we are so excited!
For me, at this point on the precipice of welcoming our little one, motherhood means learning to be patient and resilient. Learning to not be anxious and embrace the good news when the doctors provide reassurance. I am doing my best to relax and to enjoy every minute and every change my body makes for this little baby.” Melissa, Expectant Mother
“Melissa chose Strong Mansion on Sugarloaf Mountain, Maryland because it served as her wedding venue just a few years earlier. Melissa loved the idea of having photographs in this special place, at different seasons in their lives together.
It was such a joy to spend the afternoon with Melissa and Chris. Melissa was absolutely glowing with the new light that comes with motherhood and she moved with grace and confidence. It was so touching to see her husband watch her with awe and respect. You can see how gentle and protective he is with her, and you can see that she knows she is loved.
We spent a relaxed afternoon on the mountain as Melissa and Chris reminisced about their wedding day. They showed me the rooms they each prepared in, the aisle Melissa walked down, and where they shared their vows with one another.
I am forever inspired by the transformation of a woman to a mother. The way a mother embraces her new form – gently rests her hand on the curve of her new, but somehow already familiar, rounded belly – and then reminiscently supports the curve of her baby’s head in her arms. This journey to motherhood is both humbling and empowering. We become more vulnerable, yet stronger. It changes us. It’s showing an expectant mother the beauty that comes with the changes in her body, and a new mother the confidence and strength she has as she looks at her new love in her arms that inspires me.” Becca, Photographer
