“Taking these photos was so special! I was originally hesitant to take maternity photos at all but when Cassy told me her vision for the shoot I was all in. This is my first pregnancy so I know that I’ll always cherish being able to look back at this time with my baby girl. These photos are such a beautiful representation of this season of life and I’m so grateful that Cassy brought me out of my comfort zone to create such beautiful, treasured images!
I’ve wanted to be a mother as long as I can remember. Around the time my husband and I started talking about growing our family, we were told that it would likely take us longer than the average couple to get pregnant and to prepare to seek help from a fertility specialist. Much to our surprise, not even 6 weeks later, before we even had a chance to meet our fertility doctor, I was pregnant! From day one, this baby girl has been such a gift and a beautiful answered prayer. Nine+ months later, we are anxiously awaiting her arrival and so looking forward to meeting our girl. I have a feeling she’s going to teach me more about love, sacrifice, and grace than I could ever hope to teach her.” Natalie, Expectant Mother
“Natalie and I workout at a boutique fitness community called Barre 3. We are 8am class regulars and have had the opportunity to meet and talk with each other over the years. It has been exciting to learn she was expecting her first baby and see the beautiful transformation of her body.
As a mother myself, I have been extremely drawn to photographing motherhood. There are so many emotions and beautiful moments to be grateful for each and every day. Our babies grow and change quickly and leave us grasping for the memories. We have an intimate connection with our babies while they are in our womb, cradled in our arms, and as we walk hand in hand. I find it exceedingly important to document this season, especially as my own children have grown. The tangible keepsakes we are able to create now are invaluable as we later reflect on what it was like to live our days together.
After looking back on three pregnancies, I have a new appreciation for my own body, and the bodies of all mothers. I did not love being pregnant, it wasn’t easy or comfortable. However, what came from those experiences is life changing in every way imaginable. The transformation of the female body to create new life is an absolute miracle. I will never tire of documenting such beauty. It may not feel so wonderful as our bodies stretch and pull and expand, but we are quite literally, growing another human. What a humbling gift and an immense responsibility to reconcile. It’s true that life is never quite the same after you have a child. Somehow, through the hard, uncomfortable, and exhaustion, an evolution of nurturing, patience and abysmal love breaks our hearts wide open. It becomes unfathomable to remember what life was like before this other heart was beating with our own.” Cassandra, Photographer
