“Lauren and Ben are the sweetest parents-to-be. This was actually their first professional photography experience, making it both special and fun! Using the gardens of the National Arboretum had special significance. Both Lauren and Ben work on Capitol Hill in DC, so they wanted a DC location that was peaceful and serene. They’re expecting a little girl whom they’re naming Rosie, which made the gardens of the National Arboretum the perfect choice.
We walked around the gardens on an early summer morning, basking in the beauty of the landscape – all the while connecting over our mutual love for the classics. Lauren’s favorite book is Pride and Prejudice, so the stunning columns and romantic gardens also made the location absolutely perfect.
I find photographing motherhood fulfilling. It not only allows mothers to be seen for their role as a mother but also to be seen for who they are as people. As a mother myself, I struggled greatly with my identity during the transition to motherhood. I relished the moments that made me feel like myself. I think this is why I choose to photograph motherhood in a feminine, romantic way. It allows me to celebrate the mother as a mother and the mother as a woman.” Marie, Photographer
